The racial makeup of the city was 90.0% White, 5.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. There were 3,181 housing units at an average density of 585.8 per square mile (226.2/km 2). The population density was 1,216.4 inhabitants per square mile (469.7/km 2).
